Cubans fight Somalis in Ethiopia

*Designers Note: if you have any information on the Ogaden War that might help make this a better game, please reach out! Compared to other modern conflicts, there is not a lot of information on this war available on the web. We’d like to make this a more accurate simulation of the conflict. Thanks!

This is a simulation of the 1977-1978 Ogaden War between Ethiopia and Somalia. Somalia decided to take advantage of political turmoil inside of Ethiopia by invading the ethnically Somali parts of Eastern Ethiopia. In advance of the invasion, the Somalis infiltrated guerrillas into Ethiopia, and sent commandos to destroy key bridges along Ethiopia’s main rail line to Djibouti. The Somalis then sent their Soviet equipped mechanized forces across the Ethiopian border. Only a massive foreign intervention could save Ethiopia…which is exactly what happened. At the last minute, the Soviet Union switched sides and backed Ethiopia with an airlift of weapons and material! Then Cuba sent 11,000 heavily armed troops. In this game, you play Ethiopia, and you must prevent Somali forces from cutting your only rail link to Djibouti’s port. Then, with help from your new Cuban allies, you must recapture the Ogaden from the Somalis. Good luck.
